Local nursing home donation boosts hospital experience for patients living with dementia

A heartwarming donation from a local nursing home has helped to enhance patient experience and offer meaningful support to patients on the Forget Me Not Unit, Warrington Hospital’s dedicated dementia ward.

The Old Rectory Nursing Home, located in the village of Grappenhall, donated nearly £2,000 worth of thoughtful items to support the unit’s specialist work caring for patients living with dementia. Their generous gift included a wide range of sensory and activity-based items, from jigsaws and colouring books to sensory lights, memory aids, and reminiscence games – all intended to enhance patient wellbeing, stimulate memories and reduce anxiety.

Emily Thompson, Activities Co-ordinator on the Forget Me Not Unit, said: “Receiving the donation from The Old Rectory Nursing Home was incredibly heartwarming. It’s a meaningful gesture that shows genuine care and support for our patients. These gifts will make a real difference helping to calm, engage and uplift people during what can be a very challenging time. We’re deeply grateful for the support and kindness shown by everyone at The Old Rectory.”

The thoughtful donation was inspired by the team and residents at The Old Rectory Nursing Home, who are committed to giving back to their community and supporting those living with dementia both inside and outside their home.

We were proud to provide items that will bring moments of joy, comfort and connection to patients at Warrington Hospital. For our residents and staff, giving back brings a strong sense of purpose and pride. We hope this donation inspires others to do the same.”
