New sensory garden to create a peaceful space for Ophthalmology patients

A new sensory garden is being created at Warrington Hospital’s Ophthalmology Department after supporters helped the team reach its fundraising target.

The garden will provide a quiet and welcoming space for patients, families and staff to spend time away from the busy clinical environment.

Designed to engage the senses through sounds, scents and textures, the garden will be particularly valuable for patients who may find the hospital environment overwhelming, including those with complex needs.

The project was launched by the Orthoptic Team in memory of their much-loved colleague Tracey Parry, who sadly died in July 2023.

Tracey worked at Warrington Hospital for more than 25 years and was known for her compassion, humour and dedication to helping patients who needed extra support.

From fundraising walks to charity events, donations from the community have helped bring the project closer to becoming a reality.

The garden will provide a lasting tribute to Tracey while creating a calming space for the patients she cared so deeply about.

The project is due to be completed in summer 2026, with the charity looking forward to sharing the finished garden with patients, families and supporters.
